1. Upper secondary schools − end of 2003/2004 school year

 

The number of upper secondary schools at the end of the 2003/2004 school year increased by 1.1%, as compared to the end of the 2002/2003 school year, while the number of class units did not significantly change.

 

The number of upper secondary school students did not significantly change, as compared to the previous school year. The share of female students was 50.7%, although their number was not equally arranged in different types of schools. Thus, there were 70.1% of female students in secondary art schools, 63.0% in grammar schools, 50.5% in technical and related schools and only 37.2% in industrial and crafts schools.
48 548 students completed upper secondary education, out of which female students made 50.9%.

 

In the 2003/2004 school year there were 2.7% teachers engaged in regular education more than in the 2002/2003 school year. The share of women was 64.9%.

 

Students enrolled in upper secondary schools learn one, two or three foreign languages, providing that at least one foreign language is obligatory for all students. Out of the total number of students, English is learned by 81.5% students, German by 40.9%, Italian by 11.7%, French by 3.8% and Russian, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese only 0.3%.
