NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Source and collecting methods

Data on number of livestock were collected separately for legal entities and for private family farms. These surveys serve for collecting data on the number and weight of livestock and poultry, bee-hives, balance of cattle, pigs, sheep and poultry; production of cow, sheep and goat milk, wool, eggs and honey.

Coverage and comparability

Reporting units for legal entities are classified according to the National Classification of Activities, 2002 version, in section A (Agriculture, hunting and forestry), classes 01.21 – 01.24, 01.30, as well as other units classified somewhere else, but engaged in the production of livestock, poultry and bees.

Coverage for legal entities is selective (with 10 and more persons employed), and reporting units are taken over from the Register of Business Entities and Register of the Financial Agency.

Reporting units for the Survey on the Number of Cattle are private family farms engaged in production of livestock, poultry, rabbits and bees. The sample of the Survey on the Number of Cattle of 15 January 2005 was carried out on the basis of the data taken over from the Agricultural Census of 1 June 2003.
