NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Sources and methods of data collection

The report on livestock and poultry slaughtering (PO-52/3M and PO-52/3M forms) are submitted separately for legal entities and for tradesmen. The forms have been harmonised with the Nomenclature of Livestock Products and Services (NSPU, NN, No. 85/97).

This survey serves for collecting data on the number of slaughtered livestock by types and categories, their weight before slaughtering (gross weight), the weight of dressed carcass (net weight) and data on coefficients of utilisation.

Reporting units present all slaughtered livestock and poultry, irrespective of whether they were bought in or out the Republic of Croatia.

Coverage and comparability

Reporting units that submit quarterly reports on livestock and poultry slaughtering are legal entities and parts thereof engaged in the activity of livestock and poultry slaughtering. They are classified into section A Agriculture, hunting and forestry, classes 01.21 – 01.24, 01.30, section D Manufacturing, classes 15.11 and 15.12, as well as others classified elsewhere, but engaged in the said activities. The Address Book for Legal Entities and Parts Thereof (PO-52/3M form) was taken over from the Register of Business Entities and the Financial Agency. Reporting units are also tradesmen engaged in the said activities, and the address book was taken over from the Entry Book of Approved Facilities of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Veterinarian Directorate.

Definitions

Gross weight is the weight of livestock and poultry before slaughtering.

Net weight is the weight of dressed carcass of slaughtered animals without skin and blood, eviscerated and beheaded (not including piglets and poultry), and after removal of the viscera, fore ends and hind legs with knuckle.

Coefficient of utilisation of slaughtered livestock and poultry is a percentage ratio of the weight of the slaughtered cattle and poultry (net weight) and the weight of livestock and live poultry (gross weight), and it is presented in percentage calculated to one decimal place.
