EXPECTED YIELD OF EARLY CROPS,
situation as on 20 June 2008

 

In 2007, with the situation as on 20 June, the expected yield of wheat in the Republic of Croatia was 852 393 tonnes, which represents a increase of 5% as compared to the previous year. The expected yield of barley was 272 140 tonnes, which represents an increase of 21%, and the expected yield of oats was 81 300 tonnes, which represents an increase of 45% as compared to the previous year.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

 

Source and methods of data collection

 

Data on expected yield of early crops and fruits are estimated with the situation as on 20 June, while field crops are presented as an actual yield that will be used after the harvest is completed, providing that the grain has a strictly defined wetness value, even after the deduction of all losses.

 

The above mentioned data are actually the first information issued by the Central Bureau of Statistics on the yield of early crops. The estimate on expected yield is done for wheat, barley and oats.

 

The Central Bureau of Statistics estimated data on expected yield of early crops on private family farms on the following bases:

-    results of the Report on Autumn sowing for the Survey on Private Family Farms in 2007 (PO-21b form),

-    results of the Report on Expected Yield of Early Crops 2008, for Legal Entities (PO-31a form).

 

 

Coverage and comparability

 

Reporting units are legal entities and parts thereof taken over form the Register of Business Entities, which are defined in sections A Agriculture, hunting and forestry according to the NKD 2002. (NN, No. 13/03). The coverage is selective and the data are collected through the use of reports submitted by postal service to the Central Bureau of Statistics.

 

Reporting units are also households engaged in agricultural production. Data on expected harvest land areas are estimated on the basis of the on Autumn sowing for the Survey on Private Family Farms in 2007 (PO-21b form). The mentioned survey was carried out by using the interviewing method on a selected sample. The sample for private family farms has been selected from the 2003 Agricultural Census basic data set. Data on expected yield of early crops and fruits were estimated in the Central Bureau of Statistics on the grounds of the Report on Expected Yield of Early Crops in 2008, for Legal Entities (PO-31a form).
