EXPECTED YIELD OF LATE CROPS
situation as on 5 September, 2008

In 2008, the total expected yield of maize in the Republic of Croatia amounts to 2 118 thousand tonnes, which is by 49% more than the actual yield last year. The total yield of sunflowers is expected to increase by 87%, which is the result of a significantly larger land sown, The decrease of 28% of the total expected yield of sugar beets is caused by a significant reduction of the land sown in comparison to the last year.

The yield of plums and grapes is expected to slightly increase in comparison with the actual yield in 2007.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Source and methods of data collection

Data on expected yield of late crops, fruits and grapes are estimated with the situation as on 5 September, while field crops are presented as an actual yield that will be used after the harvest is completed, providing that the grain has a strictly defined wetness value, even after the deduction of all losses.

The above mentioned data are actually the first information issued by the Central Bureau of Statistics on the yield of early crops and fruits. The estimate on expected yield is done for maize, sugar beets, sunflowers, soya beans, apples, plums and grapes. Data concerning business entities and parts thereof are collected through statistical surveys that are submitted to the Central Bureau of Statistics by mail.

The Central Bureau of Statistics estimates data on expected yield of early crops, fruits and grapes on private family farms on the following bases:

-   the Report on Land Areas and Plantations at the End of Spring Harvest  for the Survey on Private Family Farms in 2008 (PO-22 b form),

-   results of the Report on Expected Yield of Late Crops, Fruits and Grapes  in 2008, for Legal Entities (PO-33 Ia form).

Coverage and comparability

Reporting units are legal entities and parts thereof taken over form the Register of Business Entities, which are defined in sections A Agriculture, hunting and forestry and B Fishing, according to the NKD 2002. (NN, No. 13/03). The coverage is selective.

Data on expected yield of early crops, fruits and grapes on private family farms are estimated by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
