NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Source and methods of data collection

Data on catches and production of sea fish and other sea organisms were collected separately for legal entities and for individual fishermen. The survey collects data on catches and production of sea fish, crustaceans, oysters and other molluscs and shellfish.

Coverage and comparability

Reporting units, for which the annual report on sea fishing is being submitted, are legal entities and their parts, (from the Register of Business Entities and the Institute for Payment Transactions), classified into the section B – Fishing (subclasses: 05.01.1 and 05.02.1) according to the National Classification of Economic Activities (sea fishing and sea hatcheries and fishponds), or into another activity that are engaged with commercial sea fishing or production of sea fish and other sea organisms.

Reporting units are individual fishermen as well, who are engaged in commercial fishing or production of sea fish and other sea organisms, and are selected by realised income (the Tax Administration Office records).

Along with the above mentioned data in getting the final data on  catches and production of sea fish and other sea organisms, data of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development – Directorate of Fisheries were used.

Definitions

Commercial fishing is an activity of catches and production of sea fish and other sea organisms for making profit.

Caught quantities are quantities of unloaded fresh fish, crustaceans, oysters and other molluscs and shellfish, i.e. actual catch minus quantities thrown away for no matter what reason from the moment of pulling out from the sea until loading.
