EARLY ESTIMATES OF AREAS SOWN WITH IMPORTANT CROPS, 2009

In this release, early estimates of areas sown with the most important crops are issued. As compared to 2008, regarding selected most important crops, it is estimated that there was an increase in the areas sown with wheat, soya beans, rape seed and sugar beets. The most significant increase, of as much as 37%, was recorded for areas sown with wheat. The estimation of areas sown with maize and potatoes shows that they remained at the level of the previous year, while those sown with sunflowers decreased.

Coverage and comparability

Reporting units are business entities and parts thereof taken over from the Register of Business Entities, which are defined in section A Agriculture, forestry and fishing according to the NKD 2007. The coverage is selective. Data are collected on reports that are sent by mail to the Central Bureau of Statistics.

Reporting units are also households engaged in agricultural production, for which interviewers collected data. Private family farms have been selected from the 2003 Agricultural Census data base.
