situation as on 5 September, 2009

In 2009, the total expected yield of maize in the Republic of Croatia amounts to 2 182 thousand tonnes, which is by 3% less than the actual yield last year. The total yield of sunflowers is expected to decrease by 15% and of sugar beets by 13%, which is caused by a reduction of the land sown. NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Source and methods of data collection

Data on expected yield of late crops are estimated with the situation as on 5 September, while field crops are presented as an actual yield that will be used after the harvest is completed, providing that the grain has a strictly defined wetness value, even after the deduction of all losses.

The above mentioned data are actually the first information issued by the Central Bureau of Statistics on the yield of late crops. The estimate on expected yield is done for maize, sugar beets, sunflowers and soya beans. Data concerning business entities and parts thereof are collected through statistical surveys that are submitted to the Central Bureau of Statistics by mail.

The Central Bureau of Statistics estimates data on expected yield of late crops on private family farms on the following bases:

-    the Report on Land Areas and Plantations at the End of Spring Harvest  for the Survey on Private Family Farms in 2009 (PO-22 b       form),

-    results of the Report on Expected Yield of Late Crops, Fruits and Grapes  in 2009, for Legal Entities (PO-33 Ia form).

Coverage and comparability

Reporting units are legal entities and parts thereof taken over form the Register of Business Entities, which are defined in section A Agriculture, forestry and fishing according to the National Classification of Activities, 2007 version. The coverage is selective.

Data on expected yield of late crops on private family farms are estimated by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
