NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Source and methods of data collection

For the preparation of the Annual Survey on Changes in Forest Areas (ŠUM-13 form), the forestry and economic principles are used as sources for the collection of data on surface areas of state and private-owned forests, sorted by tree species.

Estimate is used as a method when there are neither reliable documents nor records available for particular information.

Coverage and comparability

Reporting units are managing offices of the public company Croatian Woods and other legal entities classified in the NKD 2002. (NN, No. 13/03) in section A Agriculture, hunting and forestry, class 02 Forestry, logging and related services.

Data on forests in private ownership are collected in the Forest Extension Service for Privately-Owned Forests.

The coverage for the Annual Survey on Changes in Forest Areas (ŠUM-13 form) is complete.

Definitions

Forest is considered any area larger than 10 ares (NN, No. 140/05.) that is covered with forest trees, intended for commercial exploitation of timber or for protection or special purposes, irrespective of the height and growth of timber.
