SERVICES IN FORESTRY AND FELLED TIMBER

FIRST QUARTER OF 2009

 

In the first quarter of 2009, as compared to the first quarter of 2008, the quantity of forest protection agents used remained approximately at the same level, except for herbicides, which was significantly larger. The quantity of fertilisers and soil improvement agents used remained approximately at the same level. The quantities of energy consumed decreased by 18%, that of motor fuels by 35% and that of fuels for warming by 8%, while the quantities of castor oil and other lubricants increased by 15%. The value of materials used was by 7% and the value of services done in forestry by 19% lower, as compared to the first quarter of 2008.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

 

Source and methods of data collection

 

Data on services for the reference quarter were obtained by the collection and processing of data for reporting units engaged in services as defined in section A, class 02.02, of the NKD 2002. (NN, No. 13/03). Data referring to class 02.02 were collected by extracting data from the ŠUM-22/3M form for state-owned forests and do not contain data on services referring to privately-owned forests.

 

Coverage and comparability

 

Since 1998, data on the production of forest products have been collected on the basis of the Nomenclature of Forest Products and Services, NŠPU-98 (NN, No. 46/98). The Nomenclature was made for the needs of forestry statistics. It is based on the List of Characteristic Products of the Commercial Timber Production compiled by the Eurostat (the Statistical Office of the European Union) and published as an integral part of the Manual for Economic Accounts of Agriculture and Forestry in November 1997.
