NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Definition

Producers’ prices of industrial products are either prices at which a producer sells its products at the domestic market in the largest quantities, loaded free on rail (truck) at factory gate at the location of a producer or a price charged to another company by a producer. The selling price is increased for the amount of the compensation obtained by the seller, and deducted for the amount of the discount, rebate and value added tax and excises.

Classification and coverage

Since January 2009, producers’ prices of industrial products have been collected according to the Nomenclature of Industrial Products (NIP 2008.) and the NKD 2007. in such a way that selected legal entities submit them on the monthly basis for selected products from the NKD 2007. sections B, C, D and E.

On 1 January 2008, the 2007 version of the National Classification of Activities – NKD 2007. (NN, Nos. 58/07 and 72/07) entered into force. It was first implemented in registers and since January 2009 in this statistical survey as well.

Producers’ price indices of industrial products by months for 2008 have been backcasted according to the NKD 2007. with the implementation of the NIP 2008. and MIGs 2009 on a base year 2005 (base year for indices).

For monitoring purposes, the most important products have been selected from each group, that is, products with the highest sale on the domestic market. Legal entities are selected according to their share in the production of individual products.

Prices are monitored in 577 legal entities and for 340 industrial products. Some 1 164 observations are done every month.

Weights

Since January 2009, a structure based on sales value at the group level taken from the 2007 Annual Industry Report (IND-21 form), has been applied.

The weighting system is changed every five years, while weights are partly corrected every year, in relation to changes in prices.

Index calculation

Individual indices for each representative product are calculated from data on prices by dividing prices of a current period by prices of a base period (December of a previous year).

Aggregate indices, that is, indices of a group, division, section, subsection and the total index, are calculated by a weighted arithmetic mean from individual indices according to the modified Laspeyres  formula:

Whereby:

I          is an index of a group, division, section, subsection and
           the total index

Pn      is a price in a current period (month)

Po      is a price in a base period

Wo     is a relative sale structure in a base period.
