COMPLETED CONSTRUCTION WORKS, ORDERS AND RESIDENTIAL BUILDING,

LEGAL ENTITIES EMPLOYING 20 OR MORE PERSONS, FOURTH quarter of 2010

The value of new orders:

-	in the fourth quarter of 2009 decreased by 50.3%, as compared to the same period of 2008
-	in the period from January to December 2009 decreased by 13.6%, as compared to the same period of 2008.

The value of construction works done with own workers:

-	in the fourth quarter of 2009 decreased by 23.6%, as compared to the same period of 2008
-	in the period from January to December 2009 decreased by 10.4%, as compared to the same period of 2008.

in the period from January to December 2009, construction companies employing 20 or more persons completed 8 195 dwellings, which was by 4.1% more than in the same period of 2008.

At the end of December 2009, these companies were working on 6 170 dwellings (uncompleted dwellings), which was by 52.0% less than in the same period of 2008.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Sources and methods of data collection

Data on construction presented in this publication are collected through reporting methods by using the Monthly Report on Construction (GRAĐ-21/M form) and the Quarterly Report on Construction (GRAĐ-21/3M form).

Coverage and comparability

The Monthly and the Quarterly Report on Construction are collected from legal entities and parts thereof employing 20 or more persons  classified in the Register of Legal Entities, according to the NKD 2007. into section F Construction. About 900 reporting units are included in the average annual dynamics.

Data refer to all construction works (new constructions and reconstructions, maintenance and repair works on existing constructions) done on the territory of the Republic of Croatia.

The coverage of construction activities is harmonised with section F Construction in the NKD 2007. (NN, No. 58/07). Constructions and works are classified according to the Classifications of Types of Constructions − KVG (NN, No. 11/98). Both classifications are harmonised with appropriate classifications prescribed by Eurostat (NACE rev. 2; Classifications of Types of Constructions – CC, final version).

Definitions

Value of construction works are presented in current prices and includes work actually done during the reporting period, irrespective of whether they are paid for or not.

Value of construction works done includes the value of work, building material, complete units and structures, propulsion material and electricity, expenses of construction machinery and equipment and other expenses relating to the work.

Value of construction works done excludes value added tax, purchase costs of the land, project costs, surveying of land and supervising of services.

The value of new orders is the total value of contracts made in a reference month with ordering parties. An order is considered to be made on the day when a contract is signed between the ordering party and the contractor.

New orders also include works done by constructor on own account and for sale (business premises and dwellings). Referring to constructions on own account and for sale, it is assumed that an “order” is placed on the day when works have actually started and that presumed value of works is included.

Data on the number and on the useful floor area of completed dwellings as well as the number of uncompleted dwellings are collected only from the main contractors who have a direct contract with investors (or build for own account, sale etc.).

The number of (completed or uncompleted) dwellings include only newly built dwellings, that is, dwellings in new buildings as well as extended or additional dwellings on existing buildings, if built as new housing units.

Dwellings under reconstruction due to war damages are presented as new dwellings only in the case if built from the fundamental, irrespective of whether they had previously been destroyed or with a partially conserved facade. These are, for example, buildings, or dwellings, with the type of damage graded 5 or 6.

Data on completed dwellings refer to all dwellings completed in the course of the reference period, irrespective of when the works on them had been started. The situation of uncompleted dwellings is reported at the end of the reference period.
