NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Source

The data source is the Quarterly Report on Visitors to Main Tourist Sights and Attractions, TU-21 form.

Methods of data collection and Coverage

Observation units are all main tourist sights and attractions for which a number of visitors was reported in the reference period. The number of visitors is usually obtained through the number of tickets sold, but it is also possible for it to be determined according to other records or expert estimates. The following tourist sights and attractions are covered: national parks, parks of nature, strict reserves, forest parks, significant landscapes, monuments of nature, park architecture monuments, old cities, castles, mines, monasteries, famous people’s birth houses, eco-villages, museums and galleries, cultural monuments, festivals, sports events, other events, thermal baths, baths on the Adriatic coast, other bathing resorts, fairs, zoological gardens, aquariums, arboretums, botanical gardens and other tourist attractions not elsewhere classified.

Only attractions that recorded more than 10 000 visitors in 2008 or those important for a certain area were covered in 2009.

A certain number of attractions, although important in a particular region, were not processed in this survey, either because they were closed in the reference period or there were not records on the number of visitors or the reporting unit did not give the written consent for individual publishing of the number of visitors.

Results obtained in this survey refer to some individual sights and attractions on the basis of the written consent of a reporting unit in question (Article 56 of the Official Statistics Act, NN No. 103/03 and 75/09).

The Nature Park Papuk spreads through two counties: of Virovitica-Podravina and of Požega-Slavonia. Data on visitors are expressed as for the County of Virovitica-Podravina.

The Vransko Jezero Nature Park also spreads through two counties: of Zadar and of Šibenik-Knin, but data are expressed as for the County of Zadar.
