TRANSHIPMENT

FOURTH QUARTER OF 2009 1)

 

This release reports on data concerning the transhipment of goods.

 

In the fourth quarter of 2009, the transhipment of goods amounted to 2.93 million tonnes, which represents a decrease of 23.4%, as compared to the same period of 2008. A decrease of transhipped tonnes was recorded in the transhipment in seaports, 22.5%, in inland waterways ports, 39.9%, and at other places, 1.3%.

 

In the period from January to December 2009, the total number of transhipped tonnes decreased by 24.7%, as compared to 2008. The decrease of transhipped tonnes was recorded in the transhipment in seaports, 23.9%, in inland waterways ports, 37.1%, and at other places, 2.6%.

 

In the fourth quarter of 2009, there were 5.48 million tonnes of manipulated goods, which was by 22.1% less than in the same period of 2008. A decrease in manipulated tonnes of goods was recorded in seaports, 21.6%, in inland waterway ports, 35.4%, and at other places, 1.6%.

 

In the period from January to December 2009, the total number of manipulated tonnes of goods decreased by 25.8%, as compared to 2008. The decrease in manipulated tonnes of goods was recorded in seaports, 25.5%, in inland waterway ports, 35.1%, and at other places, 3.1%.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

 

Source and methods of data collection

 

According to the NKD 2007., the transhipment of goods covers activities classified in division 52.2. Supporting activities in transport.

 

Data on transhipment of goods were collected on the Quarterly Report on the Transhipment of Goods (PR/T-11P form).

 

Coverage

 

Data on transhipment of goods comprise the transhipment of goods in sea ports, in inland waterway ports (landing places) and at other places.

 

Data on transhipment of goods are submitted by business entities registered in class 52.24. Transhipment. Business entities that perform transhipment for own account are not included.

 

Definitions

 

Transhipment-tonnes are tonnes of goods loaded, unloaded or directly transhipped, but statistically recorded only once.

 

Manipulated-tonne (tonne operation) is a unit of working effect representing a sum of operations registered by kind (loading, unloading, direct transhipment and transfer).
