NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Source and methods of data collection

Data on green markets in 2008 were collected through the reporting method on the form – Report on Green Markets (KOM-5).

Reporting units were business units running green markets and fairs.

This statistical survey has been conducted every forth year.

Coverage and comparability

The survey covers only urban settlements with 5 000 and more inhabitants according to the 2001 Census, with the exception of Krapina which was included as the largest urban settlement in County of Krapina-Zagorje.

Definition

Green market for food is an arranged compact area where mostly food is retail sold on occassional and everyday basis by individual selleres or trade network.

Shops at green markets are exclusively shops located within buildings or booths enclosed from both sides and erected on the market area.

Stand is a counter covered by a canvas or plastic awning or some other material.

Covered green market surface area is market’s area covered with a roof.

Treated area is an area covered by a layer of asphalt, concrete, stone cubes and an area covered by cobblestone, while untreated area is an area covered by brick or without any layer.

Specialized green market is a green market where only one type of goods is regularly or occassionally sold.

Fairground is arranged or non-arranged specialized area mostly uncovered where food and other goods are sold occassionally on organized basis.
