UTILISATION OF WATERS AND PROTECTION OF WATERS FROM POLLUTION
IN INDUSTRY, 2008

 

In 2008, the water supply reached the total of 41 016 477 000 m3, in which the share of section B Mining and quarrying was less than 0.1% (2 325 000 m3), of section C Manufacturing 0.2% (105 457 000 m3), of section D Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply 99.6% (40 833 057 000 m3 ) and of section E Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities 0.1% (75 638 000 m3).

 

By origin, water from watercourses made 32.0% (13 130 342 000 m3), from reservoirs 61.9% (25 410 757 000 m3), while the rest of 6.1% refers to the waters from public supply, other systems, ground waters, springs, lakes and sea.

 

There were 39 361 326 000 m3 used in 2008. Out of that volume, 97.5% (38 384 687 000 m3) was used in production, 2.4% (969 253 000 m3) for cooling, while the rest of 0.1% was used for sanitary and other purposes.

 

Out of the total volume of water used in production (38 384 687 000 m3), 0.02% (9 378 000 m3) was spent for the production itself, while out of the total volume of water used in cooling (969 253 000 m3), there was 0.5% (5 199 000 m3) spent during the cooling process.

 

In 2008, the amount of 97 194 000 m3 of waste water was discharged. Out of that volume, 24.3% (23 673 000 m3) was discharged into the public sewage, 7.6% (7 390 000 m3) into watercourses, 65.0% (63 177 000 m3) into the sea, and the rest of 3.1% was discharged into the ground, lakes and reservoirs.

 

The total of 2.4% (2 278 000 m3) was discharged from Mining and quarrying, 90.4% (87 940 000 m3) from Manufacturing, 2.1% (2 062 000 m3) from Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply and 5.1% (4 914 000 m3) from Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities.

 

In 2008, the total amount of 16 507 000 m3 of treated waste water was discharged, out of which 41.8% (6 903 000 m3) into the public sewage, 1.5% (250 000 m3) into the ground, 31.5% (5 197 000 m3) into watercourses, 25.0% (4 119 000 m3) into the sea and 0.2% (38 000 m3) into reservoirs.

 

According to the NKD 2007. sections, the total volume of water discharged from section B Mining and quarrying amounted to 1.4% (227 000 m3), from section C Manufacturing 77.1% (12 735 000 m3), from section D Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply 1.0% (157 000 m3) and from section E Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities 20.5% (3 388 000 m3).

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

 

Sources and methods of data collection

 

Data on utilisation and protection of waters in industry are collected by the reporting method through the Report on the Utilisation of Waters and Protection of Waters from Pollution in Mining and Quarrying, Manufacturing and Electricity and Gas Supply (VOD-1 form), on the basis of the Official Statistics Act (NN, No. 103/03) and the Act on the Amendments to the Official Statistics Act (NN, No. 75/09).

 

Reporting units are all business entities and parts thereof or craftsmen recorded in the Register of Business Entities, according to the NKD 2007., into section B Mining and quarrying, C Manufacturing, D Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply and E Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities; divisions of sections B, C and E as well as classes of section D Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply: 35.11 Production of electricity, 35.13 Distribution of electricity, 35.22 Distribution of gaseous fuels through mains, 35.23 Trade of gas through mains and 35.30 Steam and air conditioning supply.

 

Coverage and comparability

 

Statistical survey is carried out on the basis of the full coverage. The source of data in the Address Book is the Annual Report of Industry (IND-21 form).

 

The survey provides data on the water supply, utilisation of water, discharging of waste water and discharge of purified waste water from industry by the NKD 2007. sections

 

Definitions

 

Water supply includes the total volume of water used in supplying enterprises/trade companies, irrespective of whether it was used for own purposes or sold to other users. The volume of water used is determined by using a water meter, or otherwise, the volume of abstracted water is estimated according either to standards or to the technological process for a particular activity. Data on water supply are given according to the water origin: from the public supply system, other systems or own water supplies, providing that own water supplies include abstractions from the ground, springs, watercourses, lakes, reservoirs or the sea.

 

Water utilisation includes the total volume of water used by a reporting unit for its own purposes in the period of one year. It comprises the volume of water used in technological process (production and cooling as well as water spent in the process of production or in the process of cooling), for sanitary purposes and other purposes.

 

Discharge of waste water includes the total volume of discharged waste water according to the place of discharging into a recipient.

 

Discharge of treated waste water includes the total volume of discharged treated waste water according to the place of discharging into a recipient.
