NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Since January 2009, statistical data on earnings have been observed, processed and presented according to the National Classification of Activities, 2007 version (NKD 2007.). This Classification entered into force on 1 January 2008 (NN, Nos. 58/07 and 72/07) and, regarding its contents and structure, it is completely in line with the NACE, Rev. 2. Its implementation will provide for a high quality international coverage of statistical data.

The implementation of the NKD 2007. in the monthly survey on persons in employment and earnings caused the formation of a new structure of legal entities at the NKD 2007. classes for 2009 and, due to the calculation of indices, for 2008. This means that the structure of the coverage of legal entities in 2008 and 2009 differs from its structure in previous years.

The structure of the NKD 2007. is different from that of the NKD 2002. and all relevant changes that occurred in the NKD 2007. can be found in the Methodology for the Statistical Implementation of the National Classification of Activities, 2007 version – NKD 2007. (NN, Nos. 102/07 and 123/08).

Data source and data coverage

Data on the number of hours for which persons in employment were paid and average monthly paid off earnings per hour have been monitored by a regular monthly survey since January 2003.

This survey covers 70% persons in employment from each division of the NKD 2007. The survey comprises persons in employment in legal entities of all types of ownership, government bodies, and bodies of local and regional government and self-government units, on the territory of the Republic of Croatia. Persons employed in crafts and trades and free lances and private farmers are not covered.

Since January 2004, persons employed in the police and defence are included.

Data are collected through the RAD-1 report, which is filled in by legal entities on the basis of accountancy records.

Definitions

Number of paid hours is a number of hours for which persons in employment were paid. They include hours actually worked (hours done during regular working time and overtime hours) and hours not actually worked (annual leave, holidays, sick leave lasting less than 42 days and other paid hours not actually done). Paid hours do not include working hours not actually worked which are paid outside a legal entity (sick leave hours lasting over 42 days, maternity leave hours, hours of shorter working time done by parents etc.).
