WORLD THEATRE DAY, 27 March
World Theatre Day is celebrated every year on March 27th, ever since 1961.
when it was established by the International Theatre Institute. On that day
theatres around the world read the international message, while the Croatian
theatres before the play read Croatian message, and sometimes both messages.
According to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics in the season 2008/2009. have
worked 64 theatres, and considering that part of the professional in-house
theatres or theatres at another location have a permanent stage, beside 23
professional theatres, also have worked 6 constant stages. During the same
season 14 professional theatres for children have worked, out of which 7
were puppet theatres, and 27 amateur theatres.

During the season 2008/2009. theatres have visited 1 580 788 visitors, of
which the largest number, 1 032 726 visitors, have visited a professional
theatres. Professional theatres for children recorded a number of 378 581 visitors, and amateur theatres number of 169 481 visitors.
During the same season, 877 plays were performed in the theatres, among
which 475 plays, or 54.2% to be precise, were plays by domestic authors. The
total number of plays performed in theatres in Croatia during that season
was 7 388, while 1 564 plays were guest performed, outside the theatre
headquarters. Abroad there were a total of 300 performances, visited by 89 678 visitors.
As for the performances on the type of work, in season 2008/2009. most plays
for children were performed, 1 978 to be precise, while there were performed
also 1 855 puppet plays. In the same period 1 112 comedies and 1 083 drama were performed as well.
Looking at the total number of performed plays in the season 2008/2009.
there were 7 388 performances, which is 1.2% less than the previous season.
The plays were attended by 1 580 788 visitors, which is 5.1% less than the
previous season. Per one professional theatre, including scenes, on average
were performed 143 plays, with an average of 249 visitors per play.
