RETAIL TRADE TURNOVER, JANUARY 2010

Starting with January 2010, the Central Bureau of Statistics has started to apply new concepts in publishing monthly retail trade indicators, which are based on the experience of other European countries.

In order to achieve the full harmonisation with the Eurostat regulation as well as to release monthly indicators of changes in the retail trade turnover as planned (a month after the end of a reference month), the Central Bureau of Statistics is going to issue first results for the basic aggregate, which will be delivered to the Eurostat. In addition, it is going to issue an indicator for national purposes (retail trade turnover).

Due to a very short deadline and possible subsequent data corrections, the Central Bureau of Statistics is going to issue revised and detailed indicators in a regular first release two weeks after these first results.

In case of significant changes in methodology and data corrections, the Central Bureau of Statistics will revise data for previous periods if necessary.

Seasonal and working-day effect has not been eliminated from the indices.

The first part of the table shows indices of the total turnover of business entities, registered by their prevailing activities into division 47 of the NKD 2007.

The second part of the table shows indices of the turnover generated from the retail trade activity of all business entities engaged in the retail trade, irrespective of their prevailing activity.

LABOUR FORCE SURVEY

One of the goals behind the process of harmonising the official statistics of the Republic of Croatia with the EU statistics is to shorten the deadlines for publishing the results of the Labour Force Survey. For that purpose, the first results on the economic activity of the population in the Republic of Croatia are published during the third quarter of 2009.

The first results of the Labour Force Survey for the third quarter of 2009 show that the working age population in the Republic of Croatia, as defined by the lower age limit only (15+), numbered 3 720 000 persons. Among them, 1 761 000 persons were present on the labour market, either as employed or unemployed, thus comprising the labour force in the Republic of Croatia. There were
1 608 000 persons in employment and 153 000 unemployed persons. The remaining 1 959 000 persons over 15 years were not present on the labour market, hence, they were economically inactive.

The analysis of relative measures within the main categories of the economic activity shows the following: the share of active persons within the working age population (activity rate) was 47.3%, while, at the same time, 43.2% of the working age population was employed (employment rate) and 8.7% of the labour force was unemployed (unemployment rate).

The Labour Force Survey results for the third quarter of 2009 will be published in the first release of the Central Bureau of Statistics No. 9.2.7/3. on 13th January 2010, both in printed form and on the website of the Central Bureau of Statistics.
