Bruto domaći izdaci za istraživanje i razvoj u 2009., prema ovom istraživanju, najveći su u području tehničkih znanosti (36,7%), prirodnih znanosti (19,4%), humanističkih znanosti (12,7%) te biomedicine i zdravstva (11,8%).

In 2009, according to this survey, the gross domestic expenditures for R&D were the highest in fields of engineering (36.7%), life sciences (19.4%), humanities (12.7%) and biomedicine and health (11.8%).

Od sredstava za istraživanje i razvoj, 49,3% sredstava dobiveno je od državne i lokalne uprave, 33,8% čine vlastita sredstva, privatna i javna poduzeća čine 9,8%, a sredstva iz inozemstva čine 7,0%.

Regarding sources intended for R&D, 49.3% were central and local government resources, 33.8% were own resources and 9.8% were resources of private and public enterprises. Foreign resources take part at 7.0% of the whole.

Radi međunarodne usporedivosti u poslovnom sektoru formirane su posebne "grupe djelatnosti" u skladu s međunarodnom metodologijom (priručnik Frascati 2002.), usklađene s NKD-om 2007. te tako usporedive s NACE-om i ISIC-om. U takvu sustavu najviše izdataka iskazano je u grupi djelatnosti koju čini odjeljak 72 NKD-a Znanstveno istraživanje i razvoj (27,9%). Na drugom su mjestu Telekomunikacije (20,7%), a na trećem je mjestu Proizvodnja osnovnih farmaceutskih proizvoda i farmaceutskih pripravaka (15,1%).

For reasons of international comparability in business sector, “activity groups” were formed following the international methodology (the Frascati Manual 2002). They are in line with the NKD 2007. and therefore comparable to the NACE and ISIC. The highest expenditure in that system was shown in the activity group comprised in the NKD 2007. division 72, Scientific research and development (27.9%), followed by Telecommunications (20.7%) and Manufacture of basic pharmaceutical  products and pharmaceutical preparations (15.1%).

Na poslovima istraživanja i razvoja u Republici Hrvatskoj zaposlene su 16 072 osobe s punim i nepunim radnim vremenom. Od toga je udio žena 49,8%. Od ukupnog broja zaposlenih, 67,5% su istraživači. Udio žena među istraživačima jest 46,9%. Među istraživačima ima 51,4% doktora znanosti (udio žena među istraživačima s doktoratom jest 42,5%), dok istraživača magistara znanosti ima 12,8% (udio žena je 49,8%).

There were 16 072 persons in full- and part-time employment engaged in R&D-related jobs, out of which 49.8% were women. Out of the total number, 67.5% were researchers. The share of women among researchers was 46.9%. There were 51.4% doctors of science among researchers (share of women among researchers holding a degree of doctor of science was 42.5%) and 12.8% masters of science (with 49.8% share of women).

Prema normama međunarodne statistike, 10 845 istraživača zaposlenih s punim i nepunim radnim vremenom moguće je izraziti i pomoću ekvivalenta pune zaposlenosti (FTE) na poslovima istraživanja i razvoja. Tako dobivamo 6 530 čovjek-godina (tj. istraživača koji rade puno radno vrijeme na istraživanju i razvoju), što je stvarni pokazatelj angažmana najkvalitetnijih potencijala u Republici Hrvatskoj na tom području.

In line with the requirements of the international statistics, the total of 10 845 researchers in full- and part-time employment might as well be expressed by the full-time equivalent (FTE) in the R&D-related jobs. Thus, there were 6 530 person-years (that is, researchers working full time in R&D), which is an indicator of the actual quality manpower in this field in Croatia.             

Na temelju ugovora o djelu ili autorskog ugovora bilo je angažirano2 030 osoba, što izraženo ekvivalentom pune zaposlenosti čini 684 čovjek-godina. Među njima su bila 1 263 istraživača, odnosno 402 čovjek-godine.

There were 2 030 persons hired by contractual agreement or author’s contract, which was 684 person-years expressed by means of the full-time equivalent. Among them, there were 1 263 researchers or 402 person-years.

Od 12 082 objavljena istraživačka rada, najveći udio imaju u trima znanstvenim područjima: tehničkome (19,2%), biomedicini i zdravstvu (18,0%) te u društvenome (17,9%). U raspodjeli objavljenih istraživačkih radova prema vrstama, najveći je broj temeljnih radova (50,1%), a zatim primijenjenih radova (38,1%). U inozemnim publikacijama objavljeno je 34,3% istraživačkih radova.

Out of the total of 12 082 published research works, the greatest share pertained to three fields of science: engineering (19.2%), biomedicine and health (18.0%) and social sciences (17.9%). Regarding the breakdown of published research works by type, the majority were basic (50.1%), followed by applied works (38.1%). There were 34.3% research works issued in international publications.

U pogledu sektorske raspodjele, od 258 promatranih jedinica, poslovnom sektoru pripadaju 123 jedinice, državnom sektoru 61 jedinica, neprofitnom sektoru 1 jedinica, a visokom obrazovanju 73 jedinice.

Regarding the sectoral distribution, 123 out of 258 observation units belonged to business sector, 61 to government sector, 1 to non-profit sector and 73 to higher education.
