Bruto domaći izdaci za istraživanje i razvoj u 2011., prema ovom istraživanju, najveći su u području tehničkih znanosti (35,2%), prirodnih znanosti (23,7%), biomedicine i zdravstva (14,1%) te biotehničkih znanosti (10,8%).

In 2011, according to this survey, the gross domestic expenditures for R&D were the highest in the fields of engineering (35.2%), life sciences (23.7%), biomedicine and health (14.1%) and biotechnical sciences (10.8%).

Od sredstava za istraživanje i razvoj, 46,4% sredstava dobiveno je od državne i lokalne uprave, 33,2% jesu vlastita sredstva, 8,1% dobiveno je od privatnih i javnih poduzeća, a 11,7% jesu sredstva iz inozemstva.

Regarding sources intended for R&D, 46.4% were central and local government resources, 33.2% were own resources and 8.1% were resources of private and public enterprises. Foreign resources took part at 11.7% of the whole.

Radi međunarodne usporedivosti u poslovnom sektoru formirane su posebne "grupe djelatnosti" u skladu s međunarodnom metodologijom (priručnik Frascati 2002.). Usklađene su s NKD-om 2007. te tako usporedive s NACE-om i ISIC-om. U takvu sustavu najviše izdataka iskazano je u grupi djelatnosti koju čini odjeljak 72 NKD-a 2007. Znanstveno istraživanje i razvoj (33,0%). Na drugom je mjestu Proizvodnja osnovnih farmaceutskih proizvoda i farmaceutskih pripravaka (18,4%), a na trećem su mjestu Telekomunikacije (14,0%).

For reasons of international comparability in the business sector, special “activity groups” were formed following the international methodology (the Frascati Manual 2002). They are in line with the NKD 2007. and therefore comparable to the NACE and ISIC. The highest expenditure in that system was shown in the activity group comprised in the NKD 2007. division 72, Scientific research and development (33.0%), followed by  Manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (18.4%) and Telecommunications (14.0%).

Na poslovima istraživanja i razvoja u Republici Hrvatskoj zaposleno je 15 350 osoba s punim i nepunim radnim vremenom. Od toga je udio žena 50,4%. Od ukupnog broja zaposlenih, 66,9% su istraživači. Udio žena među istraživačima jest 47,5%. Među istraživačima ima 57,8% doktora znanosti (udio žena među istraživačima s doktoratom jest 44,3%), dok istraživača magistara znanosti ima 8,6% (udio žena jest 47,6%).

There were 15 350 persons in full-time and part-time employment engaged in R&D-related jobs in the Republic of Croatia, out of which 50.4% were women. Out of the total number, 66.9% were researchers. The share of women among researchers was 47.5%. There were 57.8% of doctors of science among researchers (the share of women among researchers, holding a degree of doctor of science, was 44.3%) and 8.6% of masters of science (the share of women was 47.6%).

Prema normama međunarodne statistike, 10 275 istraživača zaposlenih s punim i nepunim radnim vremenom moguće je izraziti i s pomoću ekvivalenta pune zaposlenosti (FTE) na poslovima istraživanja i razvoja. Tako dobivamo 6 435 čovjek-godina (tj. istraživača koji rade puno radno vrijeme na istraživanju i razvoju), što je stvarni pokazatelj angažmana najkvalitetnijih potencijala u Republici Hrvatskoj na tom području.

In line with the requirements of the international statistics, the total of 10 275 researchers in full-time and part-time employment in the R&D-related jobs might as well be expressed by the full-time equivalent (FTE). Thus, there were 6 435 person-years (that is, researchers working full time in R&D), which is an indicator of the highest quality manpower in this field in the Republic of Croatia.

Na temelju ugovora o djelu ili autorskog ugovora bilo je angažirano 1 908 osoba, što izraženo ekvivalentom pune zaposlenosti čini 677 čovjek-godina. Među njima je bilo 1 179 istraživača, odnosno 413 čovjek-godina.

There were 1 908 persons hired by contractual agreement or author’s contract, which was 677 person-years expressed by means of the full-time equivalent. Among them, there were 1 179 researchers, or 413 person-years.

Od 9 970 objavljenih istraživačkih radova, najveći udio imaju u trima znanstvenim područjima: društvenome (20,8%), tehničkome (20,6%) te u prirodnome (17,3%). U raspodjeli objavljenih istraživačkih radova prema vrstama, najveći je broj temeljnih radova (46,6%), a zatim primijenjenih radova (40,3%). U inozemnim publikacijama objavljeno je 41,4% istraživačkih radova.

Out of the total of 9 970 published research works, the greatest share pertained to three fields of science: social sciences (20.8%), engineering (20.6%) and life sciences (17.3%). Regarding the breakdown of published research works by type, the majority were basic (46.6%), followed by applied works (40.3%). There were 41.4% of research works issued in international publications.

U pogledu sektorske raspodjele, od 234 promatrane jedinice, poslovnom sektoru pripada 112 jedinica, državnom sektoru 54 jedinice, neprofitnom sektoru 1 jedinica, a visokom obrazovanju 67 jedinica.

Regarding the sectoral distribution, 112 out of 234 observation units belonged to the business sector, 54 to the government sector, 1 to the non-profit sector and 67 to the higher education.
